Governor Scott files appeal on Isaac decision

Governor Rick Scott has filed a formal appeal on behalf of Hurricane Isaac survivors throughout Florida, asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency to reverse its recent decision denying public assistance to Florida.
Hurricane Isaac made landfall south of New Orleans on August 28th but not before impacting a number of Florida counties.
Some areas of Florida experienced record rainfall and flooding, as well as tornadoes spawned from the storm.
The governor’s appeal includes 11 counties including Franklin County, which together suffered nearly 40 million dollars in damages because of the storm.
In order to receive federal disaster assistance, Florida has to prove at least 25 million dollars in damages.
Governor Scott made the initial request for assistance on September 10th; the request was denied nine days later because FEMA said Florida had the resources to pay for the damages itself.
