Gulf County awarded Boating Improvement Grant

Gulf County was one of 27 recipients of this year’s Florida Boating Improvement Program grants.

Twenty-seven different grants, totaling $5.2 million dollars, were awarded throughout the state.

Gulf County will receive nearly 150 thousand dollars for Saul’s Creek Boat Ramp.

The grants for boat ramps are designed to bring economic development opportunities across the state by providing a steady flow of tourism and recreation.

They fund projects like expanding dock and ramp space, constructing and improving restroom facilities, and improving access roads and parking lots.

Funds for these grants are derived largely from the federal Sport Fish Restoration – Boat Access Program.

Federal funds are collected when people buy fishing tackle and motor fuels, and from import duties on tackle and yachts and Federal law requires that 15 percent of the funds go to building and repairing boat ramps.
