County
commissioners have extended the date by which people can apply to serve on the
local RESTORE council.
The 15 member Council will consider projects proposed for
funding through any money Franklin County receives from fines levied on BP
because of the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The proposals could range from projects to protect the
environment to tourism promotion though the county commission said they want to
see much of the money go toward repairing and protecting the bay.
The commission has also said it will have the final word on
which projects will be approved.
So far 15 people have applied to sit on the council, though
there have been no representatives named from the Cities of Carrabelle or
Apalachicola or from Lanark Village.
The deadline to apply was set for November 16th.
Commissioners
have decided to extend the application date until December 2nd after
voicing concerns that the announcement for the creation of the RESTORE Council
may have been overlooked because of the recent elections and Thanksgiving
holidays.
Anyone interested in serving on the RESTORE council should
contact Alan Pierce at the County Planning office at the courthouse annex in
Apalachicola.
