Franklin County seeks to be home for hovercraft manufacturer

Franklin County hopes that a company that makes hovercrafts might want to make them here.

The county recently submitted a proposal to Enterprise Florida to be considered as the future site of a hovercraft factory.

Franklin County’s Director of Administrative Services, Alan Pierce, said the county doesn’t know who the company is, only that it wants to move to a warmer climate and it needs a 10 acre site with access to water.

Preferably it would also like a 20 thousand square foot building but would be willing to build its own in the right location.

The company would provide 20 jobs.

Mister Pierce pointed out that Franklin County does have some sites that might be suitable, including St. Joe land on Timber Island, the unused industrial park at the Apalachicola airport and the old GreenSteel building at the Carrabelle airport.

He added that Franklin County will likely be competing with locations around Florida and possibly along the Gulf Coast, but it is certainly worth trying to bring them here.
