Justin
Riney, from the group Mother Ocean, will in be in Apalachicola on Saturday for a
coastal cleanup at Battery Park and to publicize Expedition Florida 500, a modern-day
exploration of Florida ’s coastline, waterways,
and aquatic ecosystem.
2013
is Florida's 500th anniversary since Ponce de Leon landed on Florida’s
coastline back in 1513; in celebration of the anniversary, Mother Ocean has
partnered with Viva Florida 500, the Florida Department of State, the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection, and various other groups to embark on a
yearlong journey of Florida’s waterways.
Justin
Riney will be leading the movement for the entire 365 days; he will spend the
first half of the year exploring the coastline and the second half traversing
the inland waterways, lakes, springs, and Everglades.
The
public are invited to join Riney for an Ocean Hour Florida Beach Clean Up at Battery Park
from 9:00 to 10:30am on Saturday.
Paddlers,
boaters, and children are also welcome to join Riney on the water and help with
the Clean Up effort!
There
will also be a meet and greet with Justin Riney on Saturday from 12-2pm at Up
The Creek Raw Bar and a shrimp boil with the Expedition Florida 500 team at the
