Franklin County considers plan to allow Maritime Museum patrons to park at courthouse

County officials are looking at the possibility of sharing some of the parking area around the courthouse with the Apalachicola Maritime Museum.

The maritime museum has offered to improve the parking area around the courthouse and the old jail in return for Maritime museum patrons being allowed to park there.

County administrative director Alan Pierce said he will work with the museum on the project that could include paving around the old jail and the green space around the public defenders office.

The two groups will also work on a parking schedule so that the museum doesn’t interfere with busy days at the courthouse, which generally include jury selection days and criminal trials.

Once the plans are complete they will be brought back to the county commission for final approval.
