Progress Energy kicking off energy saving program tonight in Eastpoint

Progress Energy is kicking off a new program in Eastpoint this month to help low income customers save money on their electric bills.

The neighborhood Energy program is designed to help people save money through up to 16 measures that Progress Energy will provide for free to customers who qualify.

Those energy saving measures can include installing low-flow showerheads and wrapping water heaters to installing weather stripping and cleaning refrigerator coils.

These are all services that Progress Energy will provide at no cost and ones which could save customers up to 150 dollars a year on their electric bills.

Progress Energy says 572 homes in Eastpoint are eligible for the free service; those homes fall in an area bordered by School Road, Tip Tucker Road, 4th Street and Highway 98 and includes Old Ferry Dock Road, Wilderness Road and Ridge Road.

The neighborhood Energy program will be introduced to Eastpoint customers at a kick-off event on January the 22nd at the Eastpoint Fire Department.

The program kickoff will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

After that power company workers will begin setting up times to visit qualified customers to do the work.

Once Eastpoint is complete, the program will be expanded to Carrabelle, Apalachicola and finally Port St. Joe.
