Franklin County to help pay for new judicial circuit computer system

Franklin County commissioners have agreed to help pay for a computer system that will allow the circuit court to begin doing most of its filings over the computer.

The commission this week signed a memorandum of understanding with the Circuit Court to purchase and maintain a circuit wide integrated case management viewer which is used to read electronic court filings.

The system is intended to cut costs on clerks of court offices in the district by allowing them to become nearly paperless over time.

It should also allow for a much smoother operation of the court system overall by making most court filings instantly available in any court in the district.

Leon County will pay for the system and will then be reimbursed by the other 5 counties in the district.

The money for the program is coming from a dedicated fund for court innovation systems that’s assessed on people in certain types of criminal trials.

The cost will be just over 12 thousand dollars for the first year and then 1600 dollars for the next three years after that.
