The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has posted draft
action plans to conserve 23 species of native wildlife and is now asking the
public to weigh in by reviewing them online.
The 23
species include 11 birds, 5 freshwater fish, 4 mammals, 2 reptiles and 1
amphibian.
There
are some well known species on the list including the snowy egret and roseate
spoonbill and some lesser known ones like the Wakulla seaside sparrow, the
Homassasa Shrew and the Suwanee Cooter.
The 23
species are the first group among 60 species that will receive draft species
action plans.
The
remaining species action plans will be released this spring and summer.
If you
would like to review the individual action plans, they are available on-line
at MyFWC.com/Imperiled.
People
can comment on what is proposed in the scientific material to conserve each
animal.
The
comment period on these plans continues through March 13.
