The Lemon Law was created to protect
consumers from buying a new car that doesn’t work.
Because this is Consumer Protection Week, the
state attorney generals’ office is reminding Floridians that the law exists.
Under the law, a car’s manufacturer is
given a reasonable number of attempts to repair substantial defects in a motor
vehicle.
If the manufacturer fails to fix the
problem, they are required to buy back the defective vehicle and either pay a refund
to the consumer or provide a replacement vehicle.
The law is effective for 2 years after the
car is purchased.
