County
commissioners have signed the contract needed to get state money to beautify
state roadsides around the county.
The
county has agreed to accept money from the Department of Transportation for 5
landscaping projects; each project will be funded at $10,000.
The
only limits are that the projects have to be in the Highway 98 Right of Way and
have access to irrigation.
The
county will be required to maintain whatever is planted.
The
locations for the landscaping projects will include the intersection of Highway
98 and Hefernan Drive in Lanark Village, Carrabelle Beach Wayside Park, the
intersection of Highway 98 and Patton Drive in Eastpoint, the base of the
bridge in Apalachicola, and in front of the Lombardi’s Seafood park just west
of Apalachicola.
The
county has a year to complete the projects, and expect to do the planting this
fall at the earliest.
