The
county commission is providing 2500 dollars each to four local baseball and
softball teams to compete in state tournaments this summer.
The
county has a policy to provide assistance to teams and individuals who make it
to state level competition or higher – so far this year the county has already
provided 10 thousand dollars in assistance.
The
money helps cover the cost of transportation, lodging and food.
On
Tuesday the board agreed to help out the double A baseball team that will play
in the state tournament in Wildwood on June 29th and the triple-A
team that will play in Freeport on July 13th.
Money
will also go to the majors softball team to play in Desoto on July the 6th
and to the debs who will play in Brooksville on July 4th.
And
there may be other teams to go to state this year.
Parks
and rec director Nikki Millender said four more softball teams will play in the
district tournament in Wewahitchka on June 21st, and if they win
there, they will also move to state level play.
The
four teams that have already won a spot in state tournaments this summer are
also looking for help from the public.
They
are selling advertising on banners that are being created to take to the state
tournament.
A
donation of 50 dollars or more will put business or personal name on the
banner.
