Franklin County
Commissioners agreed last week to rezone a portion of the St. George Island commercial district from
commercial to c4 mixed-use commercial residential.
The
county agreed to rezone 5 lots at the intersection of 3rd street
east and Gorrie Drive to allow for three
buildings at the site.
One
of the buildings will be what is known as a “skinny mini”, the other two will
be a little larger than that.
Public
opinion was mostly in favor of the issue.
Mason
Bean was opposed to the change – he said c4 was a nice idea when it was
created, because it allowed retail on the first floor and residential above, but
it has become kind of a joke because c4 is used primarily for residential
structures now.
He
called it all zoning with no planning.
Commissioners
approved the rezoning unanimously.
