Two oyster harvesting areas in the Apalachicola Bay closed because of heavy rains and high river levels

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is temporarily closing the shellfish area #1662 Apalachicola CA Summer South Shellfish Harvest Area and #1652 Apalachicola CA Summer North Shellfish Harvest Area at sunset on Friday, July 5th for the harvest of oysters, clams, and mussels.

The closure is due to heavy rainfall and an increase in river levels.

The Department of Agriculture hopes to take water samples from both locations on Monday and reopen the areas as soon as conditions allow.

 The Division of Aquaculture's Daily
