Tuesday was Dixie Phonics Day

You may not have known it but Tuesday was “Dixie Phonics” Day.

Franklin County Commissioners agreed Tuesday to sign a proclamation recognizing July 2nd as “Dixie Phonics’ Day.

The action was taken at the request of Herbert J. “Kuntry” Carter; the proclamation also commends Mr. Carter for elevating and developing this distinct musical style.

Carter is a 72 year old country singer out of Leon county; he created Dixie Phonics as a way to give the north Florida and South Georgia its own sound.

Its shares a lot with musical styles like Cajun, Texas swing and bluegrass.

Mister Carter hopes to get every county in the Florida Panhandle to sign the proclamation.

Gulf, Leon and Wakulla counties have also signed the proclamation as have a number of cities in the area.
