County commissioners seek state money for local sports parks

County Commissioners are seeking state money to help upgrade local sports parks.

The board agreed Tuesday to apply for three Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program grants for work at DW Wilson park in Apalachicola, Kendrick park in Carrabelle and for a project in Eastpoint that is still being decided.

Commissioners said they would like to see a soccer field and basketball court built at DW Wilson park as well as some new playground equipment.

The board has discussed the project since last year but still need money to pay for it.

In Carrabelle they would like to see lights put up around the walking path at Kendrick Park, something they say the public has asked for.

Commissioner Pinki Jackel said she would like money to help build a playground on county owned land near the county boat ramp, but said she and commissioner Massey would discuss doing a joint project within Eastpoint and bring back the specifics at a future county commission meeting.
The county is eligible to apply for three frdap grants and has until September 30th to complete the applications.
Each of the applications can be for up to 200 thousand dollars.
