RiverTrek 2013 Launches in support of Apalachicola Riverkeeper

Apalachicola Riverkeeper, launched its annual RiverTrek adventure this week in Chattahoochee, Florida. This kayak trip is a yearly awareness campaign & fundraiser for Apalachicola Riverkeeper, the member-based organization dedicated to the protection of Apalachicola River, Basin, and Bay. RiverTrek takes place October 8-12.
Embarking on their journey, just below the Woodruff Dam at Clyde Hopkins Park on October 8, a group of hearty volunteer kayak paddlers will travel the full length (106+ miles) of the Apalachicola River after spending weeks gathering sponsors and supporters. On October 12, the RiverTrek paddlers arrive in Apalachicola after five days of paddling and camping along the river’s banks.
Apalachicola Riverkeeper supporters will host a reception on October 12 at 5pm in Battery Park, Apalachicola.  Please join us under the bridge near City Hall. The reception includes a free ice cream social and music jam with Bryan Bowen and the band Cows Don’t Care to welcome the RiverTrek team at the final mile of their trip. Reception attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food donations for local food pantries.
The RiverTrek 2013 team, selected from across the state of Florida, will bring broader awareness to the challenges facing the River and Bay and its communities while simultaneously raising funds to support the mission of Apalachicola Riverkeeper.
