Teen injured when boat hits dock on SGI

A teenage girl from Georgia was life-flighted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries Sunday after a boating accident just off St. George Island.

The 13 year old was visiting the island with family and was on a boat checking pinfish traps when the boat accelerated into a dock.

The Florida fish and Wildlife Conservation commission said there were a few adults and about 5 kids on the boat.

They were idled near a dock in the Plantation around 3 o’clock, when one of the kids hit the throttle.

The boat accelerated into the dock, most of the people were able to duck and avoid injury, but the young lady was texting on her phone and was not aware of the danger.

The dock hit her in the upper chest and face.

She received serious injuries, but is expected to recover.

FWC said the accident underlines the importance of always wearing a life jacket when on board a boat and always paying attention to your surroundings.
