The Florida Highway patrol will be
focused on keeping drunk and otherwise impaired drivers off the roads over the
Christmas and New Year holiday.
Law enforcement groups around the state are
participating in the national campaign Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
The campaign runs from through January 1st
and is designed to discourage drunk or drugged drivers off the roads.
The campaign uses a combination of targeted
enforcement and increased visibility of law enforcement on the roadways.
There were over 17,000 DUI crashes in Florida last year that
resulted in 877 deaths and the Highway Patrol says each one of those fatalities
was 100% preventable.
If you do plan on drinking over the holidays,
remember to have a designated driver.
If you can’t do that then call a sober friend
or family member or use public transportation to get home.
And if you see someone driving that you think
is impaired, you can call *FHP from your cellphone to contact the Highway
Patrol to report them.
