The Wilderness Act, which was signed into law in 1964, set
aside an initial 9.1 million acres of wildlands for the use and benefit of the
American people.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of
this historic legislation.
To celebrate, the National Forests in Florida has planned
several events throughout 2014, which include interpretive hikes through
selected wilderness areas, presentations and wilderness film festivals
scheduled throughout the state.
