DEP to discuss management plans for Orman House and John Gorrie Museum

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection will hold a public meeting next week to discuss updating their management plan for the Orman House and the John Gorrie Museum.

Both state parks are in the City of Apalachicola – the John Gorrie Museum has been in existence since 1955.

The Orman House was built in 1838 – it became a state park in the park includes the botanical gardens and the three servicemen detail.

The Orman House Historic State brought in over 6100 people last year, the John Gorrie Museum State Park saw over 2400 guests.

The management plan identifies the Department’s goals for the parks, including the research it does, the educational programs it provides to the public and the way it manages its property.

If you would like to comment on the proposed management plan, the meeting will be held on Tuesday, March the 18th at 7 PM at the Apalachicola Community Center at Battery Park.
