Landfill monitoring well shows excess of dissolved solids

The semi-annual testing of the monitoring wells at the Franklin county landfill showed that the landfill is exceeding the allowance of total dissolved solids.

One of the monitoring wells showed a higher than allowed levels of benzene, sodium, arsenic, boron and chloride.

Solid waste director Fonda Davis said the situation will not require any additional wells or even increased sampling, but it will require a site evaluation report submitted to the Department of environmental Protection by August the 11th.

The landfill will hire a company called Trinity Analysis & Development Corporation to provide that report at a cost of 9600 dollars.
