Nominations being accepted for Florida Women's Hall of Fame

If you know a local woman who has made a significant contribution to Florida, you might want to nominate her to the Florida Women’s Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame was created in 1982, there are currently 91 women recognized in the Hall.

The Hall of Fame includes women from all walks of life including writers, politicians, doctors and teachers.

The Hall of Fame includes well known women like author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, and some who are less known like Gladys Nichols Milton from Walton County who fought for recognition of midwives as legitimate medical practitioners and Sheriff Susan Benton of Sebring who is the first female sheriff elected in a general election in the history of the state of Florida.

If you would like to nominate someone who perhaps has played a significant role in the seafood industry, or has had some other impact on local life, you can download the nomination form from fcsw.net.

Nominations from around the state  will be considered by The Florida Commission on the Status of Women who will recommend 10 nominees to Governor Rick Scott.

The Governor will select up to three women for induction into the Hall of Fame.

Those who are selected will be recognized in at a ceremony next March.
