The old
Piggots Cash and Carry building in Medart was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday.
The
Wakulla County Sheriff’s office said they were called to the scene at around 6:40 PM after a call from a concerned
citizen.
Wakulla
County Firefighters and several volunteer fire departments responded to the
scene and found the building fully engulfed in flames.
The fire
required the closing of Highway 98 for almost 4 hours because of the number of emergency vehicles on scene and downed power
lines.
The building
was empty and had not been used for hardware purposes for many years.
There were
no injuries and the building was a total loss.
The State
Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.
