Work continues on Jim Woodruff lock

The Jim Woodruff Lock located on the Apalachicola River in Chattahoochee is still closed for repairs, but the Corps of Engineers is trying to make accommodations for commercial vessels.

Mechanical problems caused the lock gates to become inoperable so repairs were started on April 6th.

Workers are replacing one of the hydraulic cylinders that open and close the lower lock gates.

Work was expected to be complete in Mid-May; that has now been moved to mid- June.

The closure will impact the movement of boat traffic on the lower Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River system.

Non-commercial vessels will have to wait for the repairs to be complete before using the area.

Commercial vessel operators can make appointments with the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Project Management Office by calling 334-232-4542
