Franklin County voters will be able to decide whether the Superintendent of Schools will remain an elected position

The voters will decide the future of the superintendent of school position in Franklin County.

The school board tonight voted three to one to request a ballot initiative that will let voters decide whether the superintendent should continue to be an elected position or whether the school board should hire superintendents in the future.

The board has been considering the issue for a number of months.

District 3 School board member Teresa Ann martin was the lone vote against the measure – she said most of her constituents that she has spoken with prefer to keep the system as is.

David Hinton, who represents District 2 was not at the meeting.

The request for a ballot initiative will now go to the county commission and voters should be able to decide the issue during the November general election.
