Florida "Move Over" Law expanded to include garbage and utility trucks

            Florida’s “Move Over” law was expanded to protect more types of public workers when they are working along roads and highways.

Under the state’s Move Over law, Drivers must move over when a patrol car, emergency vehicle tow truck is stopped on the side of a road with lights flashing.

Beginning July 1st, the law was expanded to include to include utility service vehicles and sanitation vehicles.

If a driver cannot move over safely, then they have to slow down to a speed of 20 mph below the posted speed limit.


Violating the Move Over law can result in a fine and points on your driver license.
