Franklin County approves ballot initiative for hiring Superintendent of Schools

The Franklin county commission has agreed to place an initiative on the November ballot that will let voters decide whether the superintendent of school should continue to be an elected position or whether the school board should hire the school superintendent in the future.

The measure was requested by the School Board who approved it in June.

The process required county commission approval before the issue could be sent to the Supervisor of elections to be placed on the November ballot.

If approved, the measure would take effect at the end of the current Superintendent’s term.

The county commission voted 4 to 1 to send the issue to the voters.

Commissioner Noah Lockley voted against it.
