Franklin county gets money to replace Bluff Road culvert

Franklin County has received funds that will cover most of the costs of replacing a major culvert on Bluff Road near the Apalachicola airport.

The culvert provides drainage for an estimated 1000 acres including much of the airport during a recent inspection it was found that the pipe is rusting on the bottom and beginning to bow in.

The county now plans to replace the metal culvert with a concrete box culvert.

The cost for the work is over 195 thousand dollars – the Florida department of Transportation will cover about 122 thousand dollars of that.

The rest will come from the county – specifically from road paving money earmarked for Commissioner Smokey Parrish’s district.

Commissioner Parrish said he thinks this is the right move for the county; the project was approved unanimously.
