FEMA to discuss changes to federal flood insurance rules on October 27th

If you are confused about the new federal flood insurance rules and how they might affect you or future construction in the county, there will be a workshop later this month to answer your questions.

The new flood maps are part of larger changes in the National Flood Insurance Program in which the county has to participate in order to be eligible for federal flood insurance.

Changes to the federal program include redrawing local flood maps and in many cases raising the base flood elevations.

On October the 27th FEMA will hold a pair of workshops at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research reserve to explain the changes.

The 2 o’clock workshop will be geared toward real estate agents, brokers, bankers and architects.

The 5 PM workshop will be for homeowners.

The workshops will address FEMA maps and how they impact building in the county as well as issues like grandfathering, premium savings and an overview of the community rating system.
