City of Apalachicola to rename portion of 13th street after Willie Speed

The City of Apalachicola is renaming one of its streets in honor of a long-time educator and school board member.
Apalachicola City Commissioners agreed on November 4th to honor former educator Willie Speed by renaming a portion of 13th Street after him.

The section of road that will be renamed runs from Avenue G to Avenue L.

Willie Speed was born in Apalachicola, and served as the principal of Wallace M. Quinn High School, from 1954 to 1968.

He was also a Franklin County School Board Administrator, an Assistant Public School Superintendent, and a Franklin County School Board Member.

The school board meeting room in Eastpoint was also named after him.

Mister Speed passed away in 2011.
