Saying Goodbye to Some and
Hello to More Cold Stun Turtles!
Gulf World will release half of
the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles in the Gulf of Mexico at St. George Island State
Park on Thursday, December 4th at 12:00pm (Eastern Time).
Quick response from the New
England Aquarium, governmental agencies, Gulf World and others have led to approximately
50 endangered sea turtles back to health. All sea turtles received
rehabilitation due to cold stun shock and were treated accordingly. Our staff veterinarian
has medically cleared the majority of these reptiles and they are now ready to
be released back into the Gulf of Mexico. A few sea turtles out of this group will stay
for further treatment because they were diagnosed with pneumonia, which is a
common secondary illness that sea turtles can catch when they are affected by
cold stun temperatures. Gulf World will release the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles
in the Gulf of Mexico at St. George Island State Park on Thursday, December 4th
at 12:00pm (Eastern Time). In the meantime, Gulf World will be receiving 25
more, cold stun sea turtles associated with the Northeast cold event. They will
be housed and undergo the same rehabilitation and treatment as the previous sea
turtles did at Gulf World until they are medically cleared to be released. http://live.oysterradio.com/
