TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office today arrested Cathy Flint, 55, for allegedly stealing hydrocodone from a patient while employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Byrnwood Center in Jefferson County. Flint is facing charges of grand theft of a controlled substance, a third degree felony, and faces up to five years in prison and fines. The Office of the State Attorney for the Second Judicial Circuit will prosecute the case.
The Attorney General's MFCU investigates and prosecutes providers that intentionally defraud the state's Medicaid program through fraudulent billing practices. Medicaid fraud essentially steals from Florida's taxpayers. From Jan. 2011 to Nov. 2014, Attorney General Bondi's MFCU has obtained more than $466 million in settlements and judgments. Additionally, the MFCU investigates allegations of patient abuse, neglect, and exploitation in facilities receiving payments under the Medicaid program.
