I am deeply saddened by the loss of the Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell. Sheriff Campbell lost his life on Wednesday, December 24, 2014 after battling cancer for several years. Sheriff Campbell began his career in law enforcement in 1961 and won his first election in 1996. Sheriff Campbell truly dedicated his life to protecting and serving Florida families.
In honor of Sheriff Campbell, I hereby direct the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at the County Courthouse of Leon County, Florida, at the City Hall of Tallahassee, Florida, at the Leon County Sheriff’s Office in Tallahassee, Florida, and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Florida from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, December 30, 2014.
On Wednesday, December 24, 2014, Governor Rick Scott released the following statement in regards to the passing of Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell:
Governor Rick Scott said, “Ann and I send our condolences to Sheriff Campbell’s family and the entire Leon County Sheriff’s Office over the loss of one of our state’s most devoted law enforcement heroes. As a former United States Marine, with more than 50 years of law enforcement experience, Sheriff Campbell truly dedicated his life to protecting and serving Florida families. He was also deeply passionate about encouraging his fellow law enforcement officers to join him in volunteering to better the Leon County community. We will miss Sheriff Campbell and will keep his family in our prayers during this difficult time.”
