32 Sea Turtles from the North and South will be released!

Gulf World Marine Institute (GWMI) will release 32 endangered sea turtles tomorrow, Tuesday January 20th, at St. George Island State Park at 12:00pm (Eastern Standard Time).
For 2 months, Gulf World Marine Institute has rehabilitated cold stun Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles from the New England area due to frigid temperatures. In total, there have been approximately 70 sea turtles treated at GWMI. The majority of those sea turtles have already completed their treatment and were released back into the Gulf of Mexico on December 4th. Now the remainder of these sea turtles have been medically cleared by our resident veterinarian and they are ready to be released as well. Not only did we rehabilitate these unique species from New England during this time, but we recently received 11 more cold stun green sea turtles from Port St. Joe for rehabilitation. Just like the 21 Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles from the North, these 11 green sea turtles from the South are ready to be released and we will do so collectively at St. George Island State Park tomorrow at noon.
