DNA test helps identify bear that bit teenager in Eastpoint
Using DNA test results, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has identified the bear that bit a teenager on Dec. 21 in an Eastpoint neighborhood.
Genetic samples taken from the victim’s clothing matched genetic samples taken from an adult female that was captured and euthanized by the FWC on Dec. 22.
In order to take the appropriate action with conflict bears, the FWC relies on reports from residents. Conflicts with bears should be reported to the FWC Regional Office at 850-265-3676. Threatening bear activity should be reported to the FWC’s Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922).
