On Tuesday, February 17, 2015, Duke Energy learned that a concrete pole located in Apalachicola Bay carrying electricity to customers on St. George Island had been damaged. The damage appears to be the result of a vessel striking one of the platforms that support the pole. Duke Energy crews immediately began assessing the damage and will continue working through their contingency plan until all repairs are made.
To ensure continued coverage of customers on the island, Duke Energy has:
• 6 generators totaling 12 megawatts in place at a staging area on the island. Generators will be able to serve customers in the event of a total loss of power to the island.
• Notified local, county, state and federal officials.
• Activated additional Duke Energy personnel to assist with damage assessments.
Duke Energy will provide updates as information becomes available.
