The
county will have to replace the children’s playground at the St. George Island
Public Beach.
Fonda Davis, who heads up the
county parks department, said the playground equipment is rusting badly and is
probably getting too dangerous to play on.
The playground is getting old and
is feeling the effects of being so close to saltwater.
Fonda has already contacted a
playground company to see what it will cost to get new equipment at the site –
he said it would probably cost as much to replace the equipment as it would to
fix the existing set-up.
The county may tape off the
playground if they feel it is unsafe.
District 1 commissioner Pinki Jackel
asked that the issue be dealt with as quickly as possible because that is an
extremely popular playground, especially during the tourist season.
