Gulf Council to Hold Scoping Workshops for
Coastal Migratory Pelagic Amendments 26 and 28
The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold a series of scoping workshops to discuss and take public comment on two proposed mackerel amendments:
- Amendment 26, which examines modifications to Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic king mackerel management, including annual catch limits, annual catch targets, stock boundaries, bag limit sales, and sector-specific accountability measures,
- Amendment 28, which examines changes to Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic king and Spanish mackerel management, including splitting the current federal limited-access king mackerel and federal open-access Spanish mackerel commercial fishing permits into separate Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic permits.
