Gulf Council to Hold Scoping Workshops for 
Coastal Migratory Pelagic Amendments 26 and 28 
  
The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council will hold a series of scoping workshops to discuss and take public comment on two proposed mackerel amendments:
  • Amendment 26, which examines modifications to Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic king mackerel management, including annual catch limits, annual catch targets, stock boundaries, bag limit sales, and sector-specific accountability measures,
  • Amendment 28, which examines changes to Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic king and Spanish mackerel management, including splitting the current federal limited-access king mackerel and federal open-access Spanish mackerel commercial fishing permits into separate Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic permits.

About the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council
The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional Fishery Management Councils established by the Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976. The Council prepares fishery management plans, which are designed to manage fishery resources within the 200-mile limit of the Gulf of Mexico.
