Franklin
County commissioners plan to consider a possible noise ordinance for the
county.
The board has agreed to draft rules
that could affect local bars and a very popular bog-in outside of Carrabelle.
Commissioners say the problem in
both cases is the noise late at night.
Commissioners decided to take the
step because of complaints from people who live near the bog-in on Highway 67
who said that loud trucks sometimes run until well after midnight.
Commissioner Cheryl sanders said she
would like to see a rule that would limit the hours the trucks can run from 7
AM till 9 PM.
Commissioner Pinki Jackel said she
would like to address local bars that have live music outdoors at night –
specifically those that let the bands play till the early of the hours of the morning.
Commissioner Jackel said the
proposal is just common sense and it’s a shame that the county should have to
enact a rule.
County attorney Michael Shuler will
draw up a pair of ordinances for commissioners to consider at their next
meeting and the county plans to hold a public hearing on the bog-in ordinance during
its second meeting in May so the new rule can be in place before Memorial Day
which is the next scheduled date for the Bog In.
