The Department of Agriculture will
close area 1622 to Oyster harvesting at sunset today.
1622
is the Conditionally Approved Winter West Shellfish Harvest Area.
The
area was closed because of high river levels.
The
Apalachicola River rose to over 17.7 feet at Blountstown on Wednesday and that
water is now making its way into the Apalachicola Bay.
The
river is expected to begin receding over the weekend and fall below flood stage
early next week.
Biologists
will continue to take water samples from the site before reopening it to oyster
harvesting.
