The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the identity of the victims of a Tuesday, April 21 Ochlockonee Bay fatal house fire as Benjamin Luke Ivester, 18, and Christina Michelle Parramore, 19. The two Ochlockonee Bay residents perished in a single story house fire reported at 1:44 a.m. at 27 Blue Crab Lane, according to Sheriff Charlie Creel.
Ivester and Parramore were inside a bedroom in the home at the time the fire broke out. Nicholas Harper, 17, was also in the home. Harper told investigators that he woke up to the smell of smoke and realized he was on fire. He attempted to notify Ivester and Parramore. He was able to reach Parramore who stood up briefly before she collapsed to the floor.
Harper escaped the burning house with serious burns and reached a neighbor who called 911. He was treated by Wakulla EMS before being transported by ground ambulance to Tallahassee. He was flown by medical helicopter to Shands Hospital in Gainesville with serious burns.
Wakulla Fire Rescue fought the fire until 3:31 a.m. when they were able to gain entry into the home and discovered the two deceased teenagers and two deceased cats. The state Fire Marshal was called to the scene and conducted an investigation.
The preliminary findings indicated that the cause of the fire was not suspicious and believed to be electrical. The origin of the fire is still to be determined.
Autopsies of the two victims were conducted by the Medical Examiner on Wednesday, April 22 and the deaths were consistent with carbon monoxide inhalation. Nothing suspicious has been found during the fire investigation or during the autopsies.
The WCSO continues to investigate the fatal fire with the state Fire Marshal’s office.
