East Hole bar to reopen to limited oyster harvesting
The East Hole oyster bar will reopen to very limited oyster harvesting next week.
The popular East Hole bar has been closed to recreational and commercial oyster harvesting since last September to help rebuild oyster stocks in the bay.
The bar will reopen next Thursday, May the 7th for one day, and then be open every Thursday after that through May the 28th.
Te Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission approved the limited harvesting through an order signed April 28th.
They said this would allow oystermen the chance to harvest the oysters on East Hole that were showing signs of recovery when the bar was closed in September.
It would also help the recovering oyster population by breaking up some of the clumps that are growing on the bar at this time.
