Franklin County moves forward on plans to buy El's Court property

The county’s plan to purchase the El’s Court property east of Carrabelle is slowly moving forward.

The County is working with the Trust for Public Lands on the purchase of three parcels.

The county would like to have the waterfront property to provide more water access to residents and visitors.

The property is currently owned by Capital city Bank.

The acquisition will occur in 2 stages, with Capital City Bank selling the land to the Trust For Public Land, and then the trust selling the land to the county.

That’s the same process that was used when the county purchased the Indian Creek park in Eastpoint.

County Attorney Michael Shuler said the cost of the land is 722 thousand dollars of which the county will pay about 150 thousand – the rest will be covered by a grant.

On Tuesday the county approved the contract for the purchase; the contract will only take effect when the grant has been approved.
