Franklin County saw a 10 percent drop in major crimes in 2014

            Franklin County’s major crime rate dropped by nearly 10 percent last year according to the state’s annual crime report released this week by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The report includes crimes like murder, rape and aggravated assaults reported by city and county law enforcement from January through December.

State data shows that there were 212 major criminal offenses in Franklin County last year, down from 230 in 2013.

The number of forcible rapes fell from 5 to 3; the number of robberies fell from 4 to 1.

The number of burglaries fell from 89 to 51 and motor vehicle thefts fell from 14 to 7.

Not all crime numbers fell.

There was one murder in Franklin County last year; there were none the year before.

The number of larcenies increased from 93 to 119 and the number of aggravated assaults rose from 25 to 30.

Local law enforcement was able to solve about 46 percent of the crimes both years.

The crime rate in Gulf County fell by over 25 percent last year.

There were 341 major crimes reported in Gulf County last year down from 444 the year before.

Liberty County’s crime rate fell by over 6 percent.

Wakulla county saw an 8 percent increase in crime.
