The
Philaco Woman’s Club is proud to announce the winners of this year’s 4th
grade writing contest. Judging criteria for
the contest included originality & creativity, clarity, organization,
correctness (grammar and spelling), and visual presentation (neatness). The selected question for this year’s essay was
“If you had the opportunity to bring any person
to Franklin County, who would you bring and why? What would you share with that
person?” Members of the Philaco education
committee served as judges and the winners were announced in April. First, second, and third place winners of the
contest received cash awards of $50, $30, and $20 respectively. Grace Carroll of Ms. Childress’ class was the
overall top winner. Second place winner
was Parker Mock (Ms. Childress) and the third place winner was David Paul (Ms.
Barber). Two students received honorable
mention awards: Emily Fichera and Jessie
Jo-anna Alday.
The
intent of the annual competition is to encourage, promote and reward writing
skills in Franklin County’s elementary school students.
