Mexico Beach Florida News

Happy Birthday, America!

Mexico Beach celebrated our national birthday and it was quite a celebration. We began the day with the annual Sandy Shoes 5K Fun Run and had over 400 participants! For a list of winners, click here. Once the race concluded, it was off to the free Kids’ Fishing Tournament, where just over 90 young anglers tested their skills to see if they could catch the big one. The day was topped off with the giant fireworks display shot from the pier. The great quote from Jan Struther comes to mind: “In childhood the daylight always fails too soon—except when there are going to be fireworks; and then the sun dawdles intolerably on the threshold like a tedious guest.”

And the Winner Is…

The Fish House RestaurantLast month, we had a gift certificate to Frost Pottery Garden & Gift Shop up for grabs. The lucky winner is Gene Hein from Macedon, NY. Congratulations, Gene!
This month we are giving away a gift certificate to the Fish House Restaurant, a local favorite restaurant here in Mexico Beach that’s known for its popcorn shrimp basket and friendly staff. To put your name in the hat, send an e-mail to Melissa and be sure to put your contact information in the e-mail.

Fishing in Mexico Beach

FishingFishing is H-O-T!! Red snapper continues to be a great catch—just keep the bait on the bottom and hold on. King mackerel are biting all along the buoy line and the “Car Bodies” reef areas. Fishing from the pier, canal and shore have been promising with catches of flounder, pompano, whiting and trout. Be sure to stock up on tackle and sunscreen.
