NOAA Fisheries Reminds Commercial King Mackerel Fishermen that the Gulf Florida West Coast Northern Subzone Opens October 1, 2015

A new rule effective March 1, 2015, changed the fishing year for king mackerel in the Florida West Coast Northern Subzone to October-September beginning October 1, 2015. Previously, the fishing year was July-June.

The Northern Subzone extends east and south from the Florida/Alabama state line to the Lee/Collier County line in Florida. This subzone closed October 27, 2014, and will reopen October 1, 2015.

The fishing years for the Gulf Western Zone and the Florida West Coast Southern Subzone did not change. These areas opened July 1, 2015.
