Recreational fishing for greater
amberjack will re-open on August the 1st in the Gulf of Mexico.
Greater amberjack have been off
limits to recreational fishermen since June 1st – there is a seasonal closure
every summer to help rebuild and protect the amberjack population.
Federal regulators estimate that the
recreational quota will likely be met by mid- to late September.
The bag limit for greater
amberjack is one per person, and the size limit is still 30 inches fork length which
is expected to continue through the end of the recreational fishing season.
Next year the size limit on
Greater amberjack will likely increase to 34 inches fork length.
