Gulf World
Marine Institute plans to release a Kemps Ridley sea turtle Wednesday at the
St. George Island State Park.
The turtle, which they named Maple,
was brought in last week with a hook in his mouth.
After removing the hook and testing
for other possible problems, Maple was medically cleared for release.
She will be released Wednesday
afternoon at 2:00 pm at St. George Island State Park.
Gulf World Marine Institute would
like to invite the public to view this sea turtle being released back to the
Gulf of Mexico.
They also remind fishermen that
if a sea turtle is accidentally caught, to please contact the Florida Fish
& Wildlife Conservation Commission 24 hours a day at 1-888-404-3922.
Just simply pulling a hook out of
a turtle could cause extensive damage that could lead to a painful death for
the sea turtle.
